"CELEBRATING ALL FACETS OF COUNSELING"
November 19 - 21, 2009 / Miami, Florida
Counselors across Florida at the 60th Anniversary Convention in Miami gathered to learn, network, and return to their work inspired. From Queen Brown’s testament to the impact counselors make every day in people’s lives, from schools to community agencies, to Dr. Colleen Logan’s vision of counselors standing proud of our profession, counselors left the convention stronger and more determined to work together to enrich the lives of Floridians. Thank you to all our convention presenters, exhibitors, sponsors, and organizers for a successful convention.

REPRESENTING FLORIDA COUNSELORS IN WASHINGTON

Your FCA Leadership started off the 2009-2010 year in Washington, D.C., lobbying Florida Senators and Representatives. I was joined by Candy Hertsch, FCA President-Elect, Patrick Mullen, SCF President, and Dr. Adriana McEachern on Capital Hill to advocate for professional issues that will strengthen counseling in Florida schools and communities and promote the welfare of the clients and students we serve.
We also attended the ACA Leadership Institute to learn more about providing the best services to FCA members. As part of the institute, we represented Florida counselors at the Southern Region meeting. Together with other leaders from throughout the South, we supported the inclusion of all voices in the development of the 20/20 Vision for Counseling. This means we asked Dr. McEachern, who represents the Southern Region to encourage the 20/20 Vision leadership to seek American School Counselors Association’s active participation in the process.
